Tiffany Boyette and Sarah Wests' 6th grade classes took learning outside
to start exploring customary units of measure at outside conversion
stations!!! In small groups, students rotated through stations. While
at each station, students were given various problem solving tasks using
measuring equipment to find equivalents in cups, gallons, and quarts, as
well as finding the sum of water intake and consumption of given units
over a period of time.

GMS Technology Class.jpgStudents in Mr. Mark Hyde's technology education class at Gilmer Middle School recently completed and tested their first beginning engineer project. Using the STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), students were challenged to build a wooden tower or bridge that would support as much weight as possible while adhering to strict guidelines and a limited amount of materials. Students in the course study a variety of technology related topics and construct projects in the fields of rocketry, magnetic levitation, broadcasting, and research.
